![]() The Institute welcomes applications from members of all professions. There are three grades of membership of the Institute. These are: Associate Member (ACIArb) download Member (MCIArb) download Fellow (FCIArb/Chartered Arbitrator) download The Institute offers education and training courses to assist intending members to complete the formalities required to join the Institute. These courses are taught by experienced arbitrators and academics. Entry to membership of the Institute in London is through the Associate grade and membership automatically includes membership of the Australian Branch. The Entry Course is a two-day Course involving lectures and tutorial sessions and a two-hour written examination. Qualification for advancement to "Member" grade, for those not holding a law degree, is by successful completion of the six month non-lawyer course or the General Section of the Professional Certificate in Arbitration Course offered by Adelaide University, which also licences Universities in WA, Victoria, NSW and Queensland to offer the same Course. Practising lawyers and those with a law degree may be exempted from undertaking the Entry Course. Lawyers with ADR experience may qualify for Member grade by successfully completing a two-day non-examination Special Member Course for Lawyers. Those lawyers with significant ADR experience can undertake a two-day Fast Track to Fellowship Assessment Workshop, followed some months later by a four-hour Award-Writing examination, with successful candidates then being able, subject to any further requirements of the Institutors London headquarters, to apply for the grade of Fellow, carrying the title of Chartered Arbitrators. As the world's leading membership body in Arbitration and ADR, the Institute is committed to upholding standards in arbitration and mediation. It does this through a series of examinations, training programmes, workshops and stringent criteria to ensure those members who are elected to Fellowship and carry the designation "Chartered Arbitrator" are operating at the very highest professional standards. | |||||||||
