Annual General Meeting

The Eleventh Annual General Meeting of the Australian Branch of the Chartered Institute was held on the 2nd May 2005. At the meeting Chairman Michael Shand QC presented his report. To read this report click here.

Committee Elections

Nominations for Committee positions also took place at the AGM, with the number of nominations out numbering vacancies. Therefore the decision was made to conduct a postal ballot of members to determine who should be on the Committee for the next three years. Ballot papers with profiles on the candidates have been sent out to be returned no later then close of business 27 May 2005.

Arbitrators Conduct

International Events

The Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) is hosting an international conference on Maritime Dispute Resolution. The event will examine maritime dispute resolution procedures with an emphasis on the Middle Eastern region. Topics include 'how to overcome the hurdles towards effective maritime arbitration in the Middle East', 'an overview of arbitration in Dubai', and 'maritime cases suitable for mediation'. Also planned is a mock case presentation from the German Maritime Arbitration Association (GMAA). The conference will run on the 13th and 14th of June 2005 at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. For more information visit www.diac.ae
